The Centre was launched at the Scotland?s Tipping Point conference which was held at Oran Mor, Glasgow on 2nd December 2004. The event was organised by Carol Craig, now the Chief Executive of the Centre. Keynote speakers at the event included:
Malcolm Gladwell, author of the international best-seller The Tipping Point; Scotland’s current First Minister, Jack McConnell; Professor Phil Hanlon ; Professor Tom Devine; and Dr Carol Craig. The notion that ideas can spread like a virus, or social epidemic, has been important in the Centre’s formation and programme.
Following the conference Carol Craig wrote a chapter about the event and its significance for Scotland in a book edited by Kenny MacAskill MSP. This chapter in many ways serves as a conference report as well as a strategy for how we can bring about attitudinal change in Scotland.
