The following questionnaire has been devised by M. F. Sheier, C. S. Carver and M.W. Bridges to measure an individual's level of optimism.

Note on Scoring

Life Orientation Test-Revised (Lot-R)
It is important to identify that there are 4 'filler' questions in this questionnaire that can be ignored. These are question numbers 2, 5, 6, and 8. You then reverse score the negatively worded items - these are 3, 7, and 9. You then summate the final scores of the 6 non-filler questions. Your potential range could be from 0-24. The higher you are to 24 the more optimistic in outlook you are.
