Emotional Well-being

In this section we look specifically at Positive Psychology as a new development in the social sciences, its critique of traditional psychology and some of its basic ideas.

According to Professor Martin Seligman, recognising our signature strengths and can how we can use them in every day life in the service of others can increase happiness and a sense of purpose. Here you can find out what the signature strenghts are and how you can build on them.

Happiness used to be considered a matter for individuals to sort out for themselves, but recently the question as to whether or not we are happy has pushed its way onto the agenda as one of the key questions of our time.  This section explores the relationship of happiness to well-being.


MIndfulness has received a great deal of attention recently. Here we outline what it is, some of the research carried out on its effects as well as some useful resources.
