Most references contained in The Tears that Made the Clyde are footnoted. Carol Craig has also compiled and put on-line a list of the main publications, articles and reports referred to in the text. Here you can access further information on Carol Craig's sources and the books she has particularly drawn on.  This is divided into four main sections:

Scottish history and culture
Glasgow: history, politics and culture
Glasgow biography, autobiography and oral history
Sociology, psychology and economics

Scottish History and Culture

When writing The Tears that Made the Clyde I drew heavily on two of Tom Devine's works  – The Scottish Nation and The Transformation of Rural Scotland. I also drew on T.C. Smout's social history, particularly A Century of the Scottish People. Richard Finlay's Modern Scotland was also very useful as was the essays contained in Geroge Gordon's Perspectives of the Scottish City.
