Carol Craig reports on the first readers' comments in her latest blog

1. Phil Hanlon and Sandra Carlisle - AfterNow: What next for a healthy Scotland?

This visionary book provides the intellectual background to the whole series by setting out the 'challenges of modernity' and showing how we are living through 'a change of age'. The authors look beyond health to the main social, economic, environmental and cultural challenges of our times. They end by looking at the type of transformational change required to create a more resilient and healthy Scotland.

2. Carol Craig - The Great Takeover: How materialism, the media and markets now dominate our lives

This book describes the dominance of materialist values, the media and business in all our lives and how this is leading to a loss of individual and collective well-being. Covering psychology, politics and economics, Carol Craig looks at many of the big issues of our times – debt, inequality, political apathy, loss of self-esteem, pornography and the rise of celebrity culture. The conclusion is simple and ultimately hopeful – we can change our values and our lives.

3. Alf Young and Ewan Young - The New Road: Charting Scotland's inspirational communities

A father and son go on a week long journey round Scotland to see at first hand some of the great environmental, social, employment and regeneration projects which are happening round the country. From Dunbar in the south east of Scotland to Knoydart in the north west they meet people involved in projects which demonstrate new ways of living.
